When we tumble crystalline quartz in coarse grit, we fill the barrel about a third of the way with ceramic cylinders and then add the quartz. As he broke it up, he checked for gold veins and found none, but panned out the crushed rock and found what appeared to be nearly 0.5 grams of nice gold flakes.
